Before you book
- Meets at the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon Boat Tours and Café at 10 am for a 10:30 departure, about five hours' drive from Reykjavík.
- A medium-difficulty hike of 4 to 6 km across the glacier, lasting five to six hours; winter groups run up to 8 people per guide.
- Minimum age 13; not suitable for pregnant women, wheelchair users or people with mobility impairments. Helmets, harness and crampons are supplied.
- This tour is built around glacier walking and visits ice caves and formations as conditions allow; it does not guarantee a specific cave every time.
- Hotel transfers, food, drinks and winter clothing or shoes are not included; rain gear and boots can be rented at the meeting point. Runs roughly October to April.
About This Experience
A longer guided hike across Breiðamerkurjökull, an outlet of Vatnajökull, from Jökulsárlón, taking in ice caves and other formations. The hike covers 4 to 6 km over five to six hours on the glacier.

- The ice caves and ice formations seen on this tour never look the same as the photos shown in the gallery, as they melt and reform throughout the year. Everything shown is natural, and the guide tries their best to show you the best that nature has to offer.
- This is a walking tour on a glacier that covers a total distance of 4-6 km (depending on the group) on various terrains
- It is cold on the glacier. The tour operates on windy and rainy days, despite the cold on the glacier. Wear weather-appropriate clothing, warm, breathable waterproof clothing, and stiff hiking boots that cover your ankles and offer good ankle support. Soft, foam, low shoes or sneakers are not allowed.
- Important: We offer rain pants, jackets, and hiking boots for rent at the meeting point. If you are not properly dressed, you may be required to rent gear from us or, in extreme cases, be denied participation for safety reasons. Our cancellation policy will apply in such cases.
Meeting Point
Meet at 10:00 AM next to the 'Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon Boat Tours and Café,' by the big, white super-jeeps. Get geared up and depart at 10:30 AM.
